Treatment of Pseudarthrosis

Photo ITRT: Surgical team during the bone marrow aspiration procedure

Now that animal model studies, preliminary trials on bone tissue and the phase IIa trial have all been completed with satisfactory outcomes, the AEMPS continues to regularly authorise the research team to treat patients with recalcitrant atrophic pseudarthrosis by means of biografts composed of stem cells contained within calcium biomaterial.
Over time, on what is known as a "compassionate use" basis, this procedure has been used to treat more than 40 patients with medical histories of varying complexity and different bones affected, achieving complete resolution in over 80% of cases; one patient, finally resolved,  had a history of 14 surgeries.
