Tibial pseudarthrosis (8)

Clinical case of a 14-year-old girl with atrophic pseudarthrosis at the "pencil point" of the distal tibia. The patient had undergone 4 operations in the previous 4 years.
The treatment comprised focal curettage, fragment realignment and stabilisation by plate osteosynthesis. A bone graft comprising 105 million autologous bone marrow  stem cells cultured in the Aastrom Replicell bioreactor at the Barcelona Blood and Tissue Bank, contained within tricalcium phosphate granules and autologous plasma clot, was inserted. The patient's progress was very satisfactory. Consolidation was confirmed at 7 months.
